my name is blossom i was raised in a lion's den...

Okay new Birthday plan... Maybe rather than seeing Sinéad or Cyndi... I just found out that Blossom Dearie plays in NYC on the weekends! She's on hiatus now, but returns December 3rd- a week before my birthday. And plays on Sunday the 11th- the day before my birthday (for those of you playing at home: December 12th I'll be 32. I have a wishlist on Amazon- click the link in the title of this post. I recommend viewing it sorted by Priority. Remember how much you love me & how lonely & broke I'll be this holiday season! I also wouldn't say no to a digital camera or a framed ALL ABOUT MY MOTHER poster- which they sell at this Movie shop on 18th street between 7th & 6th. Just a heads up.)

She plays this place- it's like a steakhouse -er, dinner club- kinda thing. And and and... She's BLOSSOM!! And I wanna see her. But the menu isn't very appetizing. But I'd go for the filet mignon. So, yeah it might be expensive. So maybe not. But I kinda want to see her more than Sinéad and Cyndi!! I mean... IT'S BLOSSOM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! She has a funny voice like Billie Holiday or Jimmy Scott or... me.

In other news please all sample the Bettye Lavette album "I've Got My Own Hell To Raise". Bettye is an R&B singer who has just recorded this album with all these amazing covers on it- Sinéad's "I Do Not Want What I Haven't Got", Dolly's "Little Sparrow", Aimee's "How Am I Different?" (best track on the album!) and Fiona's "Sleep to Dream". It's got an awesome funky blues sound and her voice... actually it kind of reminds me of Jimmy Scott's voice, which is kinda weird because it's actually nothing like it, although they both have this beautifully sad kind of mournful quality (yes, of course I like it- beautifully sad? that's my taste, bingo) Hmmm... Look, just go to itunes & try the song- I recommend the Aimee, but I know you all love Fiona. I think it's awesome, but I know that everyone isn't as crazy about that kinda bluesy jazzy stuff as I am. Because you're all racist. Even though you've been trying to shag a black guy for the last few weeks. That one.
